Turning one year old is such a big milestone not just for the child but also for the family. After a year of late-night feedings, hours of rocking, and learning new skills, your little one has officially become a toddler! It feels like baby and parents have graduated to the next stage. That first year is magical and difficult all at the same time—such a whirlwind! Can you imagine if we continued to grow and develop at that same rate over the years?! It really is amazing how a tiny newborn who fits in the palm of your hand can transform into a smiling, toddling kiddo in just twelve months! Every once in a while, I hear someone scoff at the idea of having a big first birthday party, but what better occasion to celebrate? After that journey through the first year, everyone deserves some cake and balloons!
Each time a family schedules a cake smash session, I get excited. I can’t wait to see how their little one will react. One-year-olds have vibrant, unique personalities at this stage, and they usually like to show them off. Some love being the star of the show and can’t wait to dig right into the cake. Others, like this little angel, are a little more hesitant and take in the cake and props carefully.
This session was just so sweet. The birthday girl’s eyes filled with curiosity when she saw the pretty pink cake covered in icing. The decorative swirls looked like flowers, so she wasn’t quite sure what to do with it at first. Once she tasted that first bite, she couldn’t help but go back for more. I love how she looked up at us inquisitively with icing on her face as if to ask, “Is this ok? Do I eat it?”
This little one looked so beautiful in her pink birthday dress and matching headband. I had so much fun celebrating with her and capturing these precious moments for her family. Happy birthday, sweetie! May your year be filled with even more adventure than the last!
